An ongoing feature of the show was the FOSELive webcast, which included reports from around the Washington Convention Center, the GCN Lab's assessments of Best New Technology Award finalists and live interviews from the Post Newsweek Tech Media Group booth, with writers and editors from GCN and other Tech Media Group publications talking with federal and industry officials. The success of the FirstGov online portal earned the CIO Council's Azimuth Awards for two of the project's driving forces: former GSA administrator David J. Barram and Eric A. Brewer, co-founder of Inktomi Corp. of Foster City, Calif., which developed the site. At the awards ceremony, from left: Brewer, Treasury CIO and council vice chairman James Flyzik, Barram and FOSE general manager Bill Howell.

Technology filled the FOSE floor but human interfaces, as always, ruled the day.

Washington Post Co. Chairman Donald Graham mingles with guests at the Executive Dinner that kicked off FOSE.

Emory Miller, GSA director of information technology professional development, addresses the Common Ground Roundtable, at which federal, state and local IT officials discussed their common problems and possible solutions.
