Oracle Corp. has granted the Army permission to transfer Oracle product technology licenses across the service at no additional cost.The Army owns more than 225,000 Oracle database licenses. The company's decision to waive license restrictions means the Army can transfer unused licenses to other organizations in the service.The Defense Information Systems Agency has awarded two contracts worth up to $440 million over eight years to Hewlett-Packard Co., which will furnish computing infrastructure at 17 locations worldwide. Each contract has a five-year base period and three one-year options.Under one contract, capped at $250 million, HP will deliver its HP-UX operating environment. Under the other contract, worth up to $190 million, it will deliver operating environments in Microsoft Windows, Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Novell SUSE Linux.The company's computing infrastructure will adjust to DISA's fluctuating demands, and the Defense Department agency will pay only for the services it uses.HP will deploy Integrity and ProLiant servers, software solutions for automated server provisioning and its OpenView commercial applications. The company will design, deliver, install and maintain the infrastructure services.The Navy has awarded General Dynamics Corp. a $5.5 million task order to develop model systems to serve as fully meshed communications networks to its land and sea assets and personnel.General Dynamics C4 Systems will create and demonstrate two engineering design model systems and two shore demonstration model systems for the third increment of the Navy's automated digital network system.The system is the Navy's wide-area networking program. It consists of various components on ships and submarines, and at communications facilities on shore. The program's third increment adds a fully meshed network with increased data transmission capabilities that support the latest Internet protocols.General Dynamics expects to complete the work by September 2007.
