The number of high-performance, low-energy consumption monitors aimed at government and industry is growing by leaps and bounds, with the NEC MultiSync EA224WMi becoming the latest of the bumper crop.

The EA224WMi has an IPS 22-inch LED backlit design that can swivel into portrait or landscape modes depending on user needs. It has both DisplayPort and HDMI ports for optimal signal resolution and strength, as well as a DVI input. For true backwards compatibility, the EA224WMi includes a VGA port, though attaching such a high-end monitor to an analog port might be painful.

“The EA224WMi reinforces our next-generation MultiSync EA Series purpose of serving the needs of performance-driven users,” said Lynn Gu, product manager at NEC Display Solutions. “This new monitor is a perfect complement to our enterprise lineup. It provides a premium-grade panel, award-winning design and maximum connectivity, including DisplayPort and HDMI, which allow businesses to work smartly and productively.”

In terms of green IT features, the display comes with an electric eye that can adjust the brightness of the panel depending on ambient conditions, so no power is wasted. Combined with the LED backlighting technology, it makes for a very efficient LCD.

The EA224WMi is on sale now for $279. Its specific features include a 21.5-inch, 16:9 IPS panel with LED backlighting, wide viewing angles of up to 178 degrees, 1920 by 1080 full HD resolution, a 25,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, an ergonomically adjustable stand, a DisplayPort, HDMI port, DVI-D port, VGA D-Sub input, an integrated four port USB 2.0 hub, two integrated one watt speakers and a carbon footprint and cost meter.
