New adapters support gigabit Ethernet connections for any device with USB 3.0, including ultrabooks and ultra-thin laptops.

Almost every computer and laptop shipping today has at least one USB 3.0 port. But not every system supports a gigabit Ethernet connection. That's not a problem anymore thanks to an innovative new product that takes advantage of the speeds offered by the new port.

StarTech.com has released a dongle that allows any device to connect and use gigabit Ethernet through its USB 3.0 port. And some models don’t even waste the port, replicating it while also allowing for Internet connectivity through the same cable. This makes the adapters ideal for ultrabook and ultra-thin laptop users who can maintain the number of USB 3.0 ports for further functionality and productivity. 

The adapters support the full bandwidth of a gigabit network connection based on SuperSpeed USB throughput, providing users with a fast and reliable network connection.

"As laptops and ultrabooks continually evolve towards a smaller footprint, the availability of port connections to various peripherals is increasingly limited" said Carey Cline, senior product manager for StarTech.com's laptop accessories product line. "These network adapters make it easier for users extend the limited connectivity they have to multiple applications."

Each of the adapters being released are 1000BASE-T, 100BASE-TX and 10BASE-T compatible and offer Jumbo Frame, Checksum Offload and Large Send Offload support.

The first product in the line is a USB 3.0 to Gigabit Network Adapter, available in white or black. It has a single gigabit network port and one SuperSpeed USB pass-through port. It's available for $79.

The second device has two gigabit Ethernet ports in addition to the high-speed pass-through port. It's available for $103. 

The final product has a single gigabit port coupled with a three port USB hub. It's on sale for $84.
