Brother's DS-920DW scanner lets users can digitize forms, photos or invoices and transfer them via Wi-Fi to computers and mobile devices.
The government is probably one of the biggest users of scanner technology, considering the millions of forms filled out on paper that have to be scanned and stored electronically. But this high-volume scanning is mostly done with large machines that offer features like full duplex scanning and high speeds. For the most part, portable scanners give up features like that in favor of reduced weight and size.
Brother International Corp. is trying to bridge that gap with its latest offering, the DS-920DW, the flagship model of the completely refreshed DSmobile line of mobile scanners. The line includes four models ranging in suggested prices from $129 to $199.
Brother designed the portable DS-920DW with wireless transfer and duplex capabilities so that users can digitize forms, photos or invoices and transfer them via Wi-Fi to computers and mobile devices.
Using the DS-920DW’s 4GB SD memory card, users can wirelessly send scanned materials to computers, to mobile devices with an installed Internet browser and to Apple and Android mobile devices via the ScanHub app. Scanned documents can also be sent to email servers, shared folders and FTP sites.
The DS-920DW features a LCD display and dedicated scan settings keys. With its high-speed, single-pass duplex scanning as well as rechargeable battery and USB power options, DS-920DW users are able to quickly scan documents anywhere. The DS-920DW, along with every other model in the DSmobile series, scans up to eight pages per minute, or five pages per minute in duplex mode. The TWAIN-compliant DS-920DW is compatible with the Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems.
Addressing the ever-growing need for scanning, digitizing and sharing documents, the DS-920DW includes a comprehensive suite of scanning software including a desktop document management program as well as a business card management program. The DS-920DW also includes new BR-Receipts software that lets users scan receipts and then export receipt data to Microsoft Excel, QuickBooks software or Quicken software.
The DSmobile scanners come with a one-year limited warranty and free phone support for the life of the product. Brother is introducing a full line of DSmobile scanners: the flagship DS-920DW ($199) and DS-720D ($149) will be available in October. The DS-820W ($179) and DS-620 ($129) are available now.
