The General Services Administration is partnering with Pentagon's Joint Artificial Intelligence Center to accelerate government's use of artificial intelligence.

The General Services Administration is partnering with Pentagon's Joint Artificial Intelligence Center to accelerate government's use of artificial intelligence.

The JAIC will participate in the Center of Excellence program and tap expertise from the GSA Technology Transformation Services team as it pushes military advances in AI technology. The partnership will focus on JAIC’s mission of accelerating the delivery of AI-enabled capabilities, scaling the departmentwide impact of AI and synchronizing DOD AI activities to expand Joint Force advantages.

"We look forward to the opportunity to work alongside our partners at the GSA Centers of Excellence to explore mutually beneficial AI solutions to modernize our technical, programmatic, and acquisition processes," said JAIC Director Lt. Gen. Jack Shanahan. "This collaboration between agency partners is critical to realize the full potential that AI can bring to the U.S. government."

The Centers of Excellence program is a Trump administration effort to help agencies accelerate modernization and digital transformation with the help of private-sector vendors. The Departments of Agriculture and Housing and Urban Development and the Office of Personnel Management are among the agencies who have tapped the program for support.

Ahead of the announcement, Shanahan has been making the rounds clarifying DOD's AI mission and controversies related to it. He said knowledge of a technology's strengths and limitations can be low across the military and government at large and repeatedly stressed the Pentagon's desire to use AI ethically and responsibly.

JAIC is also teaming with the Defense Innovation Unit and services on a predictive health project that includes health record analysis, medical imagery classification, post-traumatic stress disorder mitigation and suicide prevention.
