Flyzik will advise Ridge on IT security

James Flyzik

Starting today, James Flyzik will be on detail as the senior adviser for IT on homeland security director Tom Ridge's staff.

Flyzik, acting assistant secretary for information systems at the Treasury Department, discussed his new assignment this month at the 4th Annual Connect for a Cure Black-Tie Gala to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

'I decided that I needed to do something to support homeland security,' said Flyzik, also Treasury's CIO. The new charge is not a burden, he said.

Treasury deputy CIO Mayi Canales will take over as acting CIO and assistant secretary for information systems while Flyzik is working in the Office of Homeland Security. Flyzik will return to his Treasury post Aug. 1.
