Forthcoming dynamic content creation tools from Corel Corp., publisher of office productivity favorites such as WordPerfect and CorelDraw, will carry a new brand name: Deepwhite.
The tools will use Extensible Markup Language for multimedia publishing in multiple physical and electronic formats, chief executive officer Derek Burney said.
Corel acquired Micrografx Inc. and SoftQuad Software Ltd. to shift its focus to the XML enterprise market. 'We don't have any products out, but we have all the technology in our portfolio,' Burney said. 'We are at the prototype stage.'
WordPerfect has lost market share to Microsoft Word but retains strong niches. 'Just about every agency uses WordPerfect somewhere, usually in the legal department,' Burney said.
In judiciary and lawyer-heavy departments, WordPerfect is a standard, he said, because it maintains consistency in formats and commands across product versions.
