Gateway gets into midrange storage

Gateway Inc. has hiked up its storage system capacities to a maximum 1.7T as part of a push into the federal data center market.

The Gateway 850 SCSI JBOD, a 2U rackmount storage system, supports up to a dozen hot-swappable SCSI hard drives and has built-in rails.

The $2,999 system is aimed at agencies that already use Gateway's enterprise servers, including its recently released four-processor Intel Xeon 995 model.

The Gateway 820 LTO Autoloader automates backup of 100G to 1.6T. Priced at $5,999, it works with Veritas Backup Exec 9.0 from Veritas Software Corp. of Mountain View, Calif., or TapeWare 7.0 tape backup software from Yosemite Technologies Inc. of Fresno, Calif.
