Quantum disk appliances

Tech brief

Quantum Corp. of San Jose, Calif., just fattened up its DX3000 and DX5000 disk-based backup appliances, boosting capacity by 25 percent while lowering the cost per gigabyte, according to the company. Admins can now get a 1.5TB, RAID-5 DX3000 for under $10,000. All the latest DX3000 and DX5000 appliances support Quantum's year-old Optyon hardware-based compression technology for deploying virtual tape libraries. Among the appliances now available are the DX3000/iSCSI in either 1.5TB or 3.5TB capacity and the DX5000/iSCSI in either 4.5TB or 9.0TB capacity.
