We all look forward to big events. That’s what advent calendars are for, to count off the days till Christmas. Or why we count the seconds until the ball drops on New Year’s Eve.

Microsoft is helping us count down the seconds until the release of Windows 7 with a countdown clock that you can download for free .
“Waiting is the hardest part,” is the motto of the clock site. Seven days, 17 hours, 6 minutes and 39 seconds — when last I checked, that’s how long the countdown clock said it would be before the release of the operating system that many hope will bring stability and prosperity back to the land.
Microsoft Norge, Microsoft’s Norway group, developed the app, which works as a gadget in Windows Sidebar. The clock itself is a midnight blue background with the stylized 7 that we’ve already come to associate with the Windows OS. We ran it on a Dell Precision T5400 desktop PC with Xeon processors.
The interesting thing is that it only runs on Windows Vista, all the more increasing your desire for the new operating system by reminding you of the limitations of that which it will replace.
