Water delivery systems join the IoT

To help address municipal water waste from aging infrastructure, local governments and regional water authorities can now tap into an Internet of Things-based water-monitoring platform.

Verizon’s Grid Wide: Intelligent Water offers governments a cost-effective way to conserve water, modernize their water delivery systems and manage infrastructure upgrades on a limited capital budget.

Delivered as a “technology-as-a-service” model, Intelligent Water allows utilities to collect water supply system information remotely and wirelessly, in near real time, to help improve service reliability and supply quality and perform proactive maintenance, the company said.

Utilities can use Intelligent Water to deploy, integrate and manage the services they choose and pay on a per-month, per-meter basis, which is often a more attractive model for smaller cities.

Powered by Verizon’s 4G LTE network and its cloud-based IoT platform,  the new solution puts water service data in an open standards-based format and allows water utilities to use and connect their own end-point devices.

Grid Wide Intelligent Water is part of the larger Grid Wide IoT platform that offers electric, water and gas utilities complete, fully integrated grid modernization solutions for smart metering, demand response, meter data management and distribution monitoring and control.
