Washington Post buys GCN, other properties

The Washington Post also acquired GCN/State & Local, GCN Shopper, GCN's annual
Contract Sourcing Guide and Reseller Management magazine. FOSE and Fed Imaging, annual
information technology trade shows in Washington, were also part of the deal.


Other publications in the PNBI group are Washington Technology, Integration Management
and Tech Capital. The Washington Post is publisher of the Washington Post newspaper and
Newsweek magazine.


GCN will remain in its Silver Spring, Md., offices.


GCN publisher Gary Squires said GCN will publish 32 issues in 1998, up from 30 issues
in 1997. With this issue, the paper increases circulation from 80,000 to 87,000, adding
7,000 new subscribers who are managers in the federal government.


GCN/State & Local, published monthly, has 55,000 subscribers. GCN Shopper, with a
frequency that will rise from five in 1997 to eight this year, has a circulation of
120,000.


Financial terms of the Reed-Post agreement were not disclosed.
