USPS inks preferred vendor agreement for open-ended payroll systems support

The Postal Service has selected Computer Sciences Corp. as a preferred vendor to
provide open-ended payroll systems support for the next year.

USPS signed an order agreement with CSC in December, but that agreement has no
specified value, not even an estimate, contracting officer Beverley Goodale said. The
agreement is for one year, with an option to extend that for another eight years.

Work could include surveys, identification of necessary upgrades, a complete overall of
the payroll system or nothing.

For instance, Goodale said, “If all the postal unions decide to get together,
which is highly unlikely, it would require a major restructuring of USPS’
payroll.”

Even if upgrades to the payroll system are warranted, the CSC agreement is only one
option for getting the job done, she said. The CSC agreement is the preferred vehicle, but
only if it is in the service’s best interest, Goodale said.

Any maintenance for the systems will be done by USPS, Goodale said.

The payroll systems are year 2000-ready, she said.

So far USPS has ordered no tasks under the agreement.
