HP adds bridge to SureStore for crash recovery

Hewlett-Packard Co. has introduced a SureStore Fibre Channel SCSI Bridge option for its SureStore digital linear tape libraries to provide one-step disaster recovery, HP officials said.

The recovery option for the HP SureStore DLT 8 and DLT 24 tape drives exploits Fibre Channel's 500-meter distance specifications to guard HP NetServers and Kayak workstations against physical disaster.

Installation of the bridge eliminates the need for system boot disks to restore a complete system state after a disaster. 'That's done from the tape mechanism,' HP R&D manager Mike Leclere said.

The SureStore Fibre Channel SCSI Bridge 2100 does automated backup and recovery for up to eight servers running Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 over Fibre Channel links, Leclere said.
