Intel's 460T standalone has 100-Mbps Layer 2 switching for LAN, Internet access

Intel Corp.'s 460T Standalone Switch, the final product in its Express line of LAN switches, is a 100-Mbps Layer 2 switch for LAN and Internet access with optional fiber and Gigabit Ethernet modules.''

The 460T joins the 16- and 24-port 140T Standalone Hub and the 410T Standalone Switch to fill a niche for standalone products, said Joe Becker, product marketing engineer for the Express line.

Intel has cut prices on its Express line by up to 22 percent, Becker said.''

The 460T comes with 16 or 24 auto-sensing 10/100-Mbps ports and supports the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers' 802.1p class-of-service standard for prioritizing Layer 2 traffic for faster delivery. The 16-port version costs $1,795 and the 24-port version $2,099. Prices for the rest of the Express series of stackable and standalone switches and hubs start at $33 per 10/100-Mbps port.
