Sybase prepares two products for Web portals

Sybase Inc. has tailored two of its database and middleware products for Web portal development.

The Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise 12.0 database management system natively supports Java and distributed transaction management tools.

The new DBMS lets users create, store, retrieve and query documents formatted in Extended Markup Language. It runs under Microsoft Windows NT, Hewlett-Packard HP-UX, IBM AIX, SunSoft Solaris and Compaq Tru64 Unix.

With the new Sybase Enterprise Event Broker middleware, users can capture information from existing databases and deliver
it to other applications without coding changes. The middleware integrates with two messaging products, TIB/ActiveEnterprise from Tibco Software Inc. of Palo Alto, Calif., and IBM MQSeries.

Sybase has not set pricing for the Adaptive Server. Enterprise Event Broker will start at $60,000 for Unix and $45,000 for NT.
