MCI wins DISN-Pacific
The Defense Department late last month awarded the Defense Information System Network Transmission Services-Pacific contract to MCI WorldCom Inc.
DISN-Pacific, a five-year contract with five one-year options, has a $4 billion ordering limit. The Defense Information Technology Contracting Organization at Scott Air Force Base, Ill., awarded the contract.
Sprint Corp. also bid on the contract. It is unlikely that the contract award will be protested because MCI WorldCom recently announced plans to acquire Sprint.
MCI WorldCom will provide transmission services for DOD agencies in the Pacific region. Besides asynchronous transfer mode service, MCI WorldCom will provide network management information to the Government Regional Network Operations and Security Center at Wheeler Army Air Field, Hawaii.
