FlexPoint single-mode to multimode fiber converters from Omnitron Systems Technology Inc. of Irvine, Calif., can juggle several types of fiber connectors and long and short wavelengths. The four models are available in 850-nanometer, 1,300-nm and 1,550-nm fiber sizes.

At the high end, the FlexPoint 1000FF supports Gigabit Ethernet networks and can extend cabling runs up to 40 kilometers via single-mode fiber and 550 m over multimode fiber. The FlexPoint OC12FF supports asynchronous transfer mode and OC-12 Synchronous Optical Networks, reaching up to 40 km over single-mode and 550 meters with multimode.

At the lower end, the FlexPoint 100FF supports Fast Ethernets. The FlexPoint OC3FF supports ATM OC-3 and Fiber Distributed Data Interface networks at distances up to 58 km over single-mode and 2 km over multimode fiber. They also work for Ethernet and token-ring networks.

The 1000FF and OC12FF start at $1,595, and the 100FF and OC3FF at $995.
