Micron sets up ASP hosting

Micron Electronics Inc. last month joined the application service provider market, charging a per-month fee to host various Microsoft BackOffice components for Web transactions and data warehousing.

The subscription computing service will send one monthly bill for use of any or all BackOffice components including Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5, SQL Server, Internet Information Server, Transaction Server, Index Server, and calendaring and groupware applications. All the components run under Microsoft Windows NT 4.0. Multiple users can access them by browser over a single, always-on digital subscriber line connection, where DSL service is availabale.

The Nampa, Idaho, company's HostPro unit will operate the subscription service through two data centers scheduled to open in March in Los Angeles and Seattle.
