DOD readies global project

The Defense Department in March plans to issue an architectural standards document for its new Global Information Grid program.

''Through GIG, DOD plans to create a global end-to-end service for providing information to users throughout DOD, from warfighters to policy-makers.

''The DOD Chief Information Officers Council, a group of flag officers and Senior Executive Service members, is preparing the document, said Paul Brubaker, principal deputy to Marvin J. Langston, DOD's deputy CIO.

''The council has authority to bar funding for programs that fail to meet departmentwide GIG architecture requirements. That should help ensure the success of the new interoperability project, Brubaker said.
