NIH signs first ACES order

The National Institutes of Health is the first agency to award a task order under the General Services Administration's digital certificate program.

NIH made the award to Digital Signature Trust Co., one of three Access Certificates for Electronic Services contractors. The agency began negotiating with the Salt Lake City company in October.

NIH will develop a public-key infrastructure for its Commons proj-ect, which will let applicants submit and track grant applications electronically.

Additional awards are likely soon, said Judith A. Spencer, director of the Federal Technology Service's Center for Governmentwide Security.
