DOD names acting deputy CIO, seeks a permanent replacement for Langston

The Defense Department has tapped Paul R. Brubaker as acting deputy chief information officer until it names a new deputy CIO.

Marvin J. Langston left the post Jan. 28 to become chief operating officer of Salus Media Inc. of Carpinteria, Calif. [GCN, Feb. 7, Page 38].'Brubaker for the past year had been Langston's principal director.

Brubaker has not been nominated to fill the post permanently, said DOD spokeswoman Susan Hansen, who noted that the position does not require Senate confirmation.

From 1991 to 1996, Brubaker worked for Defense Secretary William S. Cohen when Cohen was a Republican senator from Maine.

The Youngstown, Ohio, native worked on the Federal Acquisition Streamlining Act, Paperwork Reduction Act, Government Performance and Results Act and Information Technology Management Reform Act.

Brubaker also previously was vice president of strategic programs at Litton PRC.

As acting deputy CIO, Brubaker will report to Defense CIO Arthur L. Money. In late December, Brubaker said he had no thoughts of leaving the Office of the Secretary of Defense and that he was focused on accomplishing all he could before a new president is elected and in the White House.
