FAA awards, extends contracts

FAA awards, extends contracts

Computer Sciences Corp. will design and develop components of the Federal Aviation Administration's Controller Pilot Data Communications Link System under a $68 million contract awarded this month.

Under the contract, 45 engineers at CSC's Transportation Systems Center in Egg Harbor Township, N.J., will help the agency with its DCLS program. Through the program, FAA wants to field a system by 2003 that would let pilots maximize use of airspace by giving them the freedom to fly more direct routes.

The DCLS contract was the second of two the agency made recently. ComSat Corp. of Bethesda, Md., last month won a five-year, $24 million extension of its contract for satellite services supporting FAA's satellite navigation system, the Wide Area Augmentation System.
