GITS Board to come under CIO Council

The Government Information Technology Services Board will become a committee of the Chief Information Officers Council.

The move comes after Treasury Department CIO James Flyzik, vice chairman of both the CIO Council and the GITS Board, sought to align the two groups.

GITS Board projects will come under the auspices of a CIO Council Electronic Government Committee, said Greg Woods, chief operating officer of the Education Department's Office of Student Financial Assistance Programs and the GITS Board chairman.

The merger represents a maturation of both the council and the board, Woods said. It seems natural to bring the two organizations together, he said.

The administration created the GITS Board in 1993 and the council in 1996.
