SPSS software package gets Apple support for future Mac version

SPSS data analysis software, which ceased being developed for the Apple Macintosh platform in 1995, will come out in Version 10.0 for the forthcoming Mac OS X this summer.
''The new package also will run under Mac OS 8.5 and later versions of the operating system.
''SPSS Inc. of Chicago will get re-engineering assistance for the new Mac version through a partnership with Software MacKiev, a Ukrainian company with offices in Cupertino, Calif., where Apple Computer Inc. has its headquarters.
''SPSS officials said the company is receiving support from Apple to ready the Mac version, which it discontinued developing when SPSS versions for Microsoft Windows began using new technologies not yet available in the Mac operating system.

Numerous federal agencies use the SPSS statistical software. SPSS 9.0 for Windows can run on Macs via a PC emulator.
