Senator bars vote on Katzen

'The nomination of Sally Katzen as the Office of Management and Budget's deputy director for management is at an impasse.

The Senate Governmental Affairs Committee OK'd the administration's nominee, but Sen. George V. Voinovich has placed a hold on a vote by the full Senate. The Ohio Republican said he is concerned that Katzen is not aggressive enough for the job. The Senate can take no action until he lifts the vote ban.

Katzen, currently counselor to OMB Director Jacob Lew, received a cold reception from the committee during her confirmation hearing last year. At the time, Voinovich said he would fight her nomination [GCN, Oct. 11, 1999, Page 12].

Katzen previously was deputy director of the President's National Economic Council. Before that, she spent almost five years as administrator of OMB's Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs.
