Add engine program to one of four platforms and make math visual

The Maple 6 math engine program for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS, Unix and Linux integrates symbolic and numerical solvers and can work as an add-in to Microsoft Excel.

Waterloo Maple Inc. of Waterloo, Ontario, combined its symbolic computation algorithms with the British Numerical Algorithms Group's numerical solver to produce Maple 6. It exports worksheets in Rich Text Format to many word processors.

Users work in Maple 6's proprietary programming language.

The company says the language has large-scale floating-point data handling capability.

Company spokeswoman Colleen Dietrich said the government price is $1,610. A student version of the current release, Maple V, is available for $99 at www.maplesoft.com.
