MathCAD 2000 can post to Web

MathCAD 2000 from MathSoft Inc. has an AutoSelect feature for algorithms and operators, 3-D QuickPlots for charts, an Axum LE component for technical graphing, and Hypertext Markup Language export to the Web. A built-in SmartSketch LE component from Intergraph Corp. of Huntsville, Ala., can illustrate calculations or integrate computer-aided design drawings into MathCAD documents.

The MathCAD Professional version for Microsoft Windows 9x and Windows NT lists for $441 for a single license on General Services Administration schedule contracts. A standard edition is about $100, and a premium edition bundled with other math programs is about $1,000. Marketing manager Tina Hong said about 10 percent of the Cambridge, Mass., company's MathCAD user base works at NASA, national laboratories and the Defense Department.

MathCAD 2000 is compatible with Microsoft Object Linking and Embedding 2.0-compliant programs such as Microsoft Excel and AutoCAD from Autodesk Inc. of San Rafael, Calif., without doing any coding.

EVisible Systems toolset upgraded

The 32-bit version of the Visible Analyst Standard data analysis toolset from Visible Systems Corp. of Waltham, Mass., replaces a 16-bit version of EasyCASE Professional.

The upgraded software enables structured data-modeling methods such as data-flow diagrams, decomposition diagrams and structure charts. It also allows concurrent access to data for collaboration and does smart reverse-engineering to find relationships not defined in legacy databases.

The toolset supports database management systems that run under Microsoft Windows NT, including Oracle, Sybase, Microsoft SQL Server and IBM DB2.

The schedule price for Visible Analyst Standard is $1,825, including maintenance.
