NOAA e-mails map updates

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration now provides updates of nautical charts via e-mail.

The program is a joint effort of NOAA's National Ocean Service and Maptech Inc. of Andover, Mass.

The raster charts are the result of a cooperative R&D agreement between NOAA and Maptech, the official source for electronic NOAA charts. Users can sign up for an optional weekly e-mail that contains patch files.

'The weekly update is practical, timely, convenient, cost-effective and accurate,' said Capt. Dave MacFarland, director of NOAA's Office of Coast Survey.

Subscription information can be found on Maptech's Web site, at www.maptech.com.
