Compaq names federal chief

Compaq Computer Corp.'s federal subsidiary has a new president: Ron Ross, a former president and chief operating officer of CACI International Inc. of Arlington, Va.

Ross takes over the duties of Gary Newgaard, who left the federal unit in March, and those of Don Weatherson, who is now Compaq's vice president for North American operations and strategy. Ross reports to an inside board of directors chaired by Compaq president and chief executive officer Michael D. Capellas.

A former National Security Agency employee, Ross spent 15 years as a division president at Computer Sciences Corp., where he oversaw defense and intelligence programs.
