GIS Web interface specs set

Under a new standard for Web posting of geographic information system data, browsers can overlay maps from different vendors' GIS programs.

The Open GIS Consortium Inc. has published the downloadable OpenGIS Web Map Server Interface Implementation Specification at www.opengis.org, said Lance McKee, a vice president of the Wayland, Mass., consortium.
