IBM adds three new RS/6000s

IBM Corp. has extended its mainframe copper processor technology to three new RS/6000 midrange servers.

The eight-way, rackmount M80 server supports up to 32G of main memory, said Mike Maas, an IBM product manager. The H80 is a six-way rackmount server, and the six-way F80 is a self-contained server with internal disks and input/output. All three run the AIX 4.3.3 operating system.

The H80 and M80 can have up to 28 and 56 hot-plug PCI slots, respectively. The F80 has 10 PCI slots and can handle up to 12 drives of 9.1G or 18.2G each. An entry-level M80 server with two CPUs starts at $50,000 for government buyers. Single-CPU F80 and H80 models start at $14,500 and $17,000, respectively.
