Intel's LANDesk suite can handle Win 2000 and Linux networking

Intel Corp. has updated its LANDesk Management Suite to handle networking under Linux and Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional.

Version 6.4 of the LANDesk Management Suite distributes files and software applications and enables remote troubleshooting of desktop PCs. It works with older versions of Windows as well as the Novell NetWare and Apple Macintosh operating systems.

A related package, LANDesk Targeted Multicasting Software, customizes software distribution.

It first sends the entire distribution over a WAN to a local workgroup and then uses IP multicasting to direct the software to particular PCs and servers on the group's LAN.

The multicasting software requires that LANDesk Management Suite 6.4 be installed.

LANDesk Management Suite 6.4 starts at $50 per node for 1,000 nodes. Pricing for the Targeted Multicasting Software begins at $30 per node for 1,000 nodes.
