Fast Ethernet switches have Web interface

Two Fast Ethernet switches from Compex Inc. of Anaheim, Calif., come with built-in Web servers and a Web management interface.

The 24-port Fast Ethernet switch from Compex has a built-in Web server for management.

The SXP1216WM and SXP1224WM, which respectively have 16 and 24 10/100-Mbps ports, show simple diagnostic functions via LEDs. The LED status of each port also appears on the graphical management display. An administrator can configure the ports from the Web interface.

Up to four ports can be grouped into a single trunk with an aggregate speed of up to 800 Mbps. By grouping ports into virtual LANs, an administrator can isolate traffic and suppress broadcast storms. A security mode locks up a port if an unverified station tries to access the network.

Each switch has a 4.8-Gbps backplane and can be rackmounted. An optional 100Base-FX fiber module can link another switch over a distance of up to 2 kilometers to a LAN.

The 16-port model is $699 and the 24-port model $899.
