AUG. 11'The Defense Information Systems Agency has certified a second Posix operating system under a program that promotes interoperability among applications for command, control, communications, computers and intelligence.
DISA officials validated Irix 6.5.3 from SGI under the Defense Information Infrastructure Common Operating Environment kernel Version 3.3 on July 28, said Betsy Flood, a DISA spokeswoman. In September 1999, DISA certified Tru64 Unix from Compaq Computer Corp. as COE 3.3-compliant, she said.
DISA's Kernel Platform Compliance program helps DOD officials deploy Unix applications from different vendors with common interoperability and security features, said Fritz Schulz, DISA's KPC program manager.
