IRS begins e-filing survey

The IRS' Electronic Tax Administration is conducting telephone surveys to assess taxpayers' comfort with its electronic-filing program.

The IRS must ensure taxpayers' confidence in its electronic programs to meet a congressional mandate to process 80 percent of tax returns electronically by 2007. The service this year has received 34.9 million electronic returns.

With a random nationwide sample of 1,000 taxpayers who use tax professionals, one survey will determine awareness, satisfaction and dissatisfaction with individual e-filing products, IRS officials said.

The Office of Management and Budget approved the two- to three-week surveys, IRS officials said.
