At IRMCO, peers honor GSA's Bates and FBI team

SEPT. 6—Sandra Bates, the commissioner of the Federal Technology Service, and a systems team at the FBI yesterday received service awards at the Interagency Resources Management Council 2000 conference in Williamsburg, Va.

Bates won IRMCO's individual award for overseeing the General Services Administration's FTS 2001 procurement. G. Martin Wagner, GSA's associate administrator for governmentwide policy, said Bates' engineering of low-priced bridge contracts had helped agencies through the switch from the predecessor long-haul contracts under FTS 2000.

IRMCO's award for team achievement went to a group at the FBI's Laboratory Division for its work on the Combined DNA Index System. Law enforcement officials use CODIS to compare DNA samples of criminal suspects against a database of 100,000 DNA samples.
