The President's Information Technology Advisory Committee has released a report recommending ways agencies can improve public access to federal information resources.

The report, Transforming Access to Government through Information Technology, also suggested ways that agencies can simplify government transactions.

The committee called for funding R&D into long-term technology challenges, creating an electronic-government group within the Office of Management and Budget, establishing a fund for high-risk and experimental IT projects, and launching cross-agency systems integration pilots.

The report also identified technology areas on which the government should focus, including security and privacy, data integration, software quality, infrastructure scalability and workplace issues.
