Education names deputy CIO

Richard L. Miller is swimming against the tide.

Leaving industry for government, Miller will lead the Education Department's Information Technology Division as principal deputy chief information officer. Miller, former senior vice president for Electrolux North America, took over the position last month. He spent the last 25 years working with systems.

'We are pleased to have recruited such an outstanding candidate from private industry,' CIO Craig Luigart said. 'He will play a key leadership role in helping our department take advantage of emerging technology.'

Miller will oversee systems architecture, network design and operation, configuration management and contract management.
