Ellison offers peek at Oracle9i

Oracle Corp. is rolling its product lines into a two-product package dubbed Oracle9i.

The new product will merge the Oracle9i Database Server and Oracle9i Application Server, chairman and chief executive officer Larry Ellison said this month at the Open World user conference in San Francisco.

The Oracle9i servers will incorporate a number of software products that previously were separate releases, Ellison said. In the past, Oracle users have had to buy and install their own unique configurations from among six dozen Oracle products. 'We think that's a fundamental flaw in the way software is sold,' he said.

Pricing for Oracle9i will be announced at the time of release next spring, Oracle spokeswoman Kristin Kryway said.
