VBA honors systems workers for excellence

The Veterans Benefits Administration and GCN honored 14 VBA employees for excellence in systems development, management and implementation.

The employees received their awards at a recent GCN Forum luncheon in Washington:

Thomas Buffington, chief of the Philadelphia Insurance Center's systems development staff, for his work as acting director of the Hines, Ill., Systems Development Center.

Jean Campos, Dave Gordon and Glen Russell, computer specialists at the Austin, Texas, Automation Center, for their work on the Common Security System.

Robert Deverick, computer specialist at the Hines Systems Development Center, for running the National Change of Address project.

Kim Graves and Michelle Mason, a management analyst and a computer specialist in the Data Management Office, for helping set up the VBA Operations Center, which provides Web access to agency business information.

Richard Howell and William Saliski, management analysts in the Data Management Office, for running VBA's Internet and intranet sites.

Robert Jones, management analyst in the Operations Department, for his work making VBA forms available via the Web.

Frank Morello, computer specialist in the Telecommunications Department, for helping establish the first virtual VBA information center.

Linda Serpas, program analyst in the St. Petersburg, Fla., office, for developing specifications for a new claims processing data warehouse.

Phillip J. Tropea, leader of the Internet and Intranet Support Team at the Philadelphia Benefits Delivery Center, for maintaining VBA IP services.

Carol Waldt, chief of the Philadelphia Benefits Delivery Center's Network Systems Division, for serving as the acting director during a period when the center made many systems changes.
