SSA lets retirees apply online

The Social Security Administration early this month began offering retirees the opportunity to apply for benefits online.

A user completes the form online, prints it and mails it to SSA along with required documents. The service is available 7 a.m. to midnight EST Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
SSA maintains each user's electronic application, which it can then retrieve for processing after receiving the signed copy and supporting documentation.

PC users can access the form at s00dace.ssa.gov/pro/irib2/wwwrmain.shtml. A version for Apple Macintosh users is in development.
