Matlab 6 now includes a browserlike interface

BY SUSAN M. MENKE | GCN STAFF

Matlab 6, the latest version of the technical computing application from MathWorks Inc. of Natick, Mass., has a new desktop interface with a workspace browser, searchable Hypertext Markup Language help and a command history window showing past sessions.

User-written Matlab applications can be converted to C and C++ programs with an included compiler suite. Matlab 6 is compatible with Java routines, and it has new visualization features for viewing two-dimensional images as transparent objects.

Product marketing director Lisa Kempler said versions of Matlab 6 for Microsoft Windows 9x, Windows 2000, Linux and Unix all come on the $1,900, single-user CD-ROM of MathWorks Release 12. The CD also contains Simulink 4 and other products.
