GCN Lab gets upgrade of its test bed

The GCN Lab has completed a two-month upgrade of its test bed, strengthening reviewers' ability to evaluate cutting-edge products for government users.

Connecting the test bed is a 24-port Catalyst 2900 series switch from Cisco Systems Inc. of San Jose, Calif. It can expand when necessary to more than 100 ports. Five servers anchor the test bed. The main load is processed by two 750-MHz Dell Computer Corp. PowerEdge 2400 servers. The Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 backbone supports a diverse group of clients.

'We do the tough technical work that goes into purchasing decisions, so our readers don't have to,' lab director John Breeden II said. 'We look forward to pushing the new test bed and its supporting infrastructure to their limits.'
