NetWorker 6 expands support for net storage

Legato Systems Inc.'s NetWorker 6.0 upgrade extends support for tape libraries and other networked storage devices.

New in the NetWorker 6.0 software is the Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP) for managing remote backups, said George Simons, vice president of product development for the Mountain View, Calif., company.

NetWorker 6.0 accommodates both network-attached storage devices and storage area networks, Simons said. Its compliance with NDMP, a standard that most NAS devices use, lets administrators back up NAS servers to local or remote tape libraries.

The redesigned file index architecture can handle larger data sets than before. NetWorker 6.0 operates with servers and storage nodes under Microsoft Windows NT, Windows 2000 and various flavors of Unix, as well as Linux environments.

The Workgroup Edition for small-network environments can stand alone or integrate a workgroup into a larger enterprise. Prices range from $1,150 for Linux and Windows to $4,140 for Unix.

The Network Edition adds archiving and database support. Prices range from $2,300 for Windows and Linux to $8,280 for Unix.
