FEB. 19'The Defense Information Systems Agency has awarded set-aside contracts potentially worth almost $2.2 billion'the largest of their kind ever'to three small Virginia companies.

Arrowhead Space and Telecommunications Inc. of Falls Church, Artel Inc. of Reston and Spacelink International LLC of Dulles received indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contracts for the Defense Information Systems Network Satellite Transmission Services'Global.

The contractors will compete for the global business in three base years followed by seven optional years. The objective is to provide global fixed satellite bandwidth for the military through commercial space segment and earth terminal leases.

'DISA is proud to be leading the federal government today by signing the largest ever set-aside contract,' Air Force Lt. Gen. Harry D. Raduege Jr. said at the contract signing at the agency's Arlington, Va., headquarters. Raduege said the awards continue DISA's commitment to long-term relationships with small business and raise the bar for other federal agencies to follow.
