CSC set to award IRS subcontracts

Computer Sciences Corp., holder of the IRS Prime contract, is in final negotiations with three vendors for tax systems modernization subcontracts.

According to CSC officials, the company is about to pen deals with IBM Corp., Science Applications International Corp. of San Diego and Unisys Corp.

IBM will build the Customer Account Data Engine, a database management system to replace the IRS' antiquated Master File and Integrated Data Retrieval systems. IBM also will run the Enterprise Systems Management Project for CSC, officials said.

SAIC will oversee the tax agency's customer communications initiative. Under this effort, the company will set up a new routing system to handle toll-free calls from taxpayers, according to officials.

Unisys will take on the Electronic-Service Project, which will let tax practitioners register and submit online powers of attorney for their clients, officials said.
