IBM says goal is to make servers self-managing
Developing a 'living, breathing server' is the goal of IBM Corp.'s Project eLiza.
So says Irving Wladawsky-Berger, the company's vice president for technology and strategy. The enterprise information infrastructure needs software and hardware that are self-managing like the human autonomic nervous system, he said.
Wladawsky-Berger and other IBM officials spoke last week at a Washington briefing.
IBM officials are convinced that the Internet revolution is 'less than 5 percent complete,' said Michael R. Nelson, director of Internet strategy. Within four years, he said, users will pay the same money for 10 times as much computing power.
