PeopleSoft portal offers many apps

The PeopleSoft Government Portal suite, released this month, will support either intranet or public Web access to an agency's applications and databases.

Kimberly Williams, director of government strategy for PeopleSoft Inc. of Pleasanton, Calif., said the portal suite integrates with financial, human resources and other applications. The portal suite requires only a single sign-on for all apps via the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol.

'You can have an unlimited number of user roles and different views of information,' Williams said. But the portal suite is not equipped to handle external business transactions without additional tools, she said.

The suite, including a software tool kit, is priced according to the size of an agency's operating budget, Williams said. It runs with PeopleTools 8 on top of an existing IBM DB2, Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle platform. The portal can integrate with Lotus Notes, Microsoft Exchange or Post Office Protocol 3 e-mail programs.
